Judy Sagen retired from School District 196 of Rosemount, Apple Valley, and Eagan Minnesota in 2011 after 37 years of teaching vocal music. Her most recent position was Director of Choral Activities at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, MN. She received her undergraduate degrees in Music Education and Piano Performance from Drake University and her Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota.
Judy's Concert Choirs and Women's Choirs have been featured performers at both ACDA and MMEA State Conventions. Her concert choir was one of three choirs selected for the North Star Choral Festival in New York City and performed the Mozart Vesperae Solennes de Confessore with the New York City Chamber Orchestra at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center. They were also one of five high school choirs to perform with the Minnesota Orchestra under the baton of Eiji Oue performing the "Chichester Psalms" by Leonard Bernstein. Her choirs have performed at the Dorian Vocal and Choral Festival at Luther College, the St. Olaf Choral Festival, and the Anne Bancroft Awards. In addition, her concert choirs have joined sister schools in District 196 and toured Europe, The British Isles, and The Czech Republic. The Eastview High School Concert Choir was one of 6 high school choirs selected to perform with worldly renowned Chanticleer in a festival-concert in The Twin Cities in March of 06.

Judy has been actively involved in both the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and Minnesota Music Education Association (MMEA). She has served as ACDA's President,R&S Chair for Women's Choirs, Metro-East Chair, and has been a presenter at many state conventions. She also held the position of MMEA's Vocal Vice-President for 2 years and was in charge of All State Choirs. In the summer of 2002 she worked as co-head coordinator of all volunteers fort he World Choral Symposium.
Judy is actively involved as a clinician and adjudicator around the state of Minnesota. She is recognized in Who's Who of American Teachers, Who's Who of American Women, and is the recipient of The Christopher Randall Award given to an outstanding teacher in District 196. She was named the 2003-04 Minnesota Choral Director of The Year by the Minnesota American Choral Director's Association and MN Music Educator of the Year in February of 2009. This spring, Judy received the District 196 Outstanding Service Award recognizing her 36 years of excellence in teaching from the Minnesota American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). |
